Lactic Acid at 5%

Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that works on the skin’s surface to dissolve the bonds holding dead skin cells together, allowing them to shed more effectively and revealing fresher, brighter skin underneath. The pH of this formula is approximately 3.8, which is also the pKa of lactic acid. When pKa is close to pH, there is an optimal balance between salt and acidity, optimising the delivery of the acid form to ensure it provides effective exfoliation that can be used daily.

 

Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer (Hyaluronic Acid)

Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer is a special cross-linked form of hyaluronic acid. This cross-linked structure gives it a remarkable water-binding capacity, five times more than the already impressive water-binding capacity of standard hyaluronic acid. The water-filled crosslinked hyaluronic acid gel forms a smooth film on the skin and continuously delivers bound water, providing long-term moisturising benefits. Its inclusion in this formula ensures that as the lactic acid works to exfoliate, the skin remains well hydrated and plumped rather than stripped or dry.

 

Tasmannia Lanceolata (Tasmanian Pepperberry) Extract

It offers effective exfoliation while maintaining hydration.  It is also a recommended starting point for anyone who has never used an acid exfoliant before, as its 5% concentration is gentle enough to use regularly without overwhelming the skin. Those dealing with dark spots, uneven skin tone, rough texture, fine lines, dullness, or post-blemish marks will find this serum particularly beneficial.

Note: Lactic Acid should not be used on sensitive, peeling, or compromised skin.

 

HOW TO USE

Apply once daily, ideally in the evening. Apply to clean, dry skin before heavier creams or moisturisers. The product can be diluted with other treatments to reduce strength until the skin develops tolerance. Avoid contact with the eyes. If irritation persists, discontinue use and consult a physician.

Important sun protection note: This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid that may increase the skin’s sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.

Ingredients to avoid pairing with: Avoid using alongside Retinol or Retinoids, direct acids, direct Vitamin C, EUK, Niacinamide Power, and Peptides including Copper Peptides.

 

BUILDING UP YOUR ROUTINE

It is recommended to start with the 5% concentration and build up to the 10% over time. For those completely new to chemical exfoliation, beginning with two to three evenings per week before progressing to more frequent use allows the skin to adapt comfortably.
